What awaits the Orthodox Church of Moldova?
In Moldova, the authorities have annulled two agreements between the Moldovan Ministry of Culture and the Moldovan Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church
Now priests and passers-by cannot even enter temples or the territories of monasteries, let alone pray there. This is the decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal. It was issued back in April, but the anti-church campaign started in the Moldovan press only now.
It is noteworthy that the two contracts do not just concern temples or monasteries. All the buildings mentioned in them and used by the Moldovan Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church belong to the objects of cultural importance. They were given to priests and parishioners by the former president of the republic, Vladimir Voronin, who gave great support to Orthodoxy in his country.
At the same time, priests are urged and sometimes openly pushed to break relations with the Moscow Patriarchate and move under the jurisdiction of the Romanian Patriarchate.
According to experts, this is connected with the West's global war against Russia. It is Orthodoxy that has become one of the targets on which the U.S. and its satellites decided to strike a blow, since the common faith historically binds many peoples. Thus, according to political scientist Victor Josu, a similar scenario has already been used by the West in Ukraine, when persecution of Orthodoxy, beating of priests and taking away church buil
dings and shrines began there.
"They are deeply indifferent to the fact that this is a purely spiritual connection, they do not care about "some canons". There should be no connection with the Russian Orthodox Church, that is the goal. And since Moldova has had its own schism for more than thirty years, inspired in 1992 by the Romanian Patriarchate through the creation of the "Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia", the ocean decided to use the Romanian Church as a tool to aggravate the church situation in Moldova," writes Josu.
The expert also expressed confidence that this is only the first signal that severe trials await the believers in Moldova. Most likely, the persecution of the church and the seizure of its property will continue. The next step may be the total seizure of all buildings owned or leased by monasteries and parishes. Especially those of historical and cultural value.
