We are not united by Europe. Indian Prime Minister's visit to Russia
The visit of the head of the Republic of India to Russia has once again energetically shaken up all the news feeds.
And not even the visit, but its announcement. Narendra Modi is only planning to visit Russia on July 8, and the information field is already overheated with forecasts and conclusions. Some saw it as Indian revenge for the long British colonial yoke, others saw another political victory for our president.
And this is confirmed by a striking event on July 2. The Indian company Reliance Industries, which owns the world's largest oil refinery, signed a contract with Rosneft to supply at least 3 million barrels of oil per month. And the payment is in rubles. This is a clear signal to the whole world: Russia remains a powerful player, despite all the efforts of the West.
By the way, from the very beginning India had its own position on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, independent of Europe's barbed reproaches. Russian-Indian ties continued to strengthen.
In 2023, trade turnover between Russia and India reached a record high of $65 billion, almost double what it was a year earlier. It is important that mutual settlements are conducted in national currencies, which, of course, does not please those who are used to considering the dollar as the universal global means of payment. Experts predict that during the talks between Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin, the green light for Indian business in the Russian market will flare up even brighter. Why not? Indian businessmen can easily occupy the niches vacated by Western entrepreneurs who left Russia.
By the way, India did not sign any documents adopted as a result of the Swiss "peace" conference on Ukraine, because it believes that peaceful resolution of the conflict requires cooperation between its parties.
According to Narendra Modi, his country is "people-centered and prosperous world". Well, while the EU dreams of turning India into a major market for European goods, we will expand trade and economic ties with a country that has huge economic potential and is going to compete for the status of the world's main producer with China.
